ABOUT THE PROJECT

ABOUT THE PROJECT

While Randall Road is one of the busiest local roadways for motorists, it is not as accessible for today's increased level of pedestrians, bicyclists and public transit users. There are few sidewalks and pedestrian crosswalk signals at Randall Road's intersections that allow for safe walking in the study area. For bicyclists, Ride Illinois' Bicycle Level of Service study indicated that road segments within the study have very low levels of safety and comfort. Last, despite the high number of bus stations on Randall Road, many existing stations are only concrete slabs or marked signs that are not safely accessible.

To provide safe access for
all types of travelers along the corridor, KDOT is conducting a preliminary engineering and environmental study on Randall Road. This study will develop and review alternatives for the construction of new shared use paths and sidewalks, intersection signals, signage and other related improvements on Randall Road. Kane County is funding this study in coordination with local communities, Pace Suburban Bus, the Illinois Department of Transportation and various other organizations.

PROJECT PHASES

Randall Road multimodal improvements will be implemented in multiple phases. This study is currently in Phase I. Future phases will include refining improvement designs, right-of-way acquisition (if needed), construction plan development and then actual construction. Sections of the proposed improvements will advance through future phases in segments based on funding availability and the status of other local projects.
